About Clarissa

I'm a fun, crazy college student who loves family history and costume design, hence the reason for this blog!

Summer Portfolio

This summer I have been working as a seamstress for a bridal store, which is fun, wonderful, stressful and frustrating at the same time. One of the most rewarding things I get to do is take a strapless dress and make it modest. It’s creatively stimulating and a lot of work but I love it! Here are a few before and after pictures from this summer. Enjoy!

Organza pleated bodice with ruffled mermaid skirt. Modest fill has matching pleats and tulip sleeves

Keyhole back sheath dress with 3/4 length sleeves and gorgeous lace!!

lace cap sleeve dress with button up back. I lined the sheer top for modesty

Champagne and ivory lace dress. Modesty fill has a built up neckline and follows the v-neck of the original dress.

T-shirt remake dresses!

This is a quick DIY dress made from a top I had, some 2 in knit elastic and a skirt I made out of some of my stash fabric.

Cost? About $2 for the elastic. That’s it!

Best part? I get compliments every time I wear this! Chartreuse and Navy= new fave color combo!

Night of Swing!

Alright, one of my favorite hobbies is swing dancing! I love it, basically if I don’t go dancing at least once a week my life is incomplete. So the swing place I normally go to had a big end of the semester dance, complete with live band and costume competition. Since I am going into costume design I could not pass this up. I went all out, got a dress from the costume shop I work at, did my makeup and hair in the time period and won the costume competition! Was there ever any doubt? Here are some pictures from that night. Enjoy!

So I finally got around to getting one of my swim suit patterns cut out and put together. This one I call Betti, it just has a retro feel to it that I love! Definately wearing this next time I’m swimming! betti collage
